Retro glamour and vintage style is always 'in'. Now more than ever it is easy to find a wide range of both true vintage and retro styled clothing and accessories, whatever your taste and whatever your shape. And everyone seems to want in on it from high street department stores to high flying celebrities
My mother always told me "there is no such thing as an ugly woman, just a lazy one".....she also said that "little girls don't wear black", but even mother cant be right all the time.... The pinups retro glamour look is not a low maintenance one, so if it's really what you want be prepared to work for it girl!. However, clothing is a statement of individuality so there is no need to turn yourself into a walking museum piece if you don't want to. Take what works for you, combine any way you like and leave the rest to the rest.
For example I have hair long enough to sit on, which I will never have cut into betty page bangs or any other popular pinup hairstyles, no matter how cute they look because that is not me. I prefer to coil my hair into a style that resembles a 1920s or 30s style, though I never wear 20s clothes as I prefer the shapes from the late 30s and 40s. My nails are over an inch long and filed to evil claw points which betray my gothic leanings rather than glamour girl ones. But when I ride motorcycles it all goes a bit 50s (think Olivia Newton John at the end of grease) because it just feels right for that.
So there are no rules. You don't have to pick a decade and stick to it. Look realistically at yourself, body and personality, and decide what you want to play up or down then find the right combo just for you.

Ok ready?
The retro glamour pinup look as we know and love it today has afew standards for you to use as a framework to build your look around. So here is a list of the basics every pinup girl needs in her boudoir:
LINGERIE. the perfect outfit can be ruined by the wrong foundations, but the right ones can make you feel a million dollars even in jeans and a T shirt (though why you would be wearing that is beyond me! lol)
SKIRTS. This is a feminine style so skirts and dresses are the way to go, the only exception being 30s and 40s style wide leg trousers or 50s pedal pushers.
RED LIPSTICK . With a shade for everyone, the pinup is married to red forsaking all others. If you only wear this and heels you will still be well dressed. (wouldn't advise doing the grocery shopping like that though!)
HAIR PINS . whether functional or decorative you will need something to keep those retro hairstyles in place.
PINUP HEELS. there is no way round this one ladies. Heels complete your outfit and make you look and move like a siren. Think Marilyn Monroe running for the train in 'some like it hot'.
Just those items above will give you a great retro glamour look which you can easily dress up or down for any occasion. But if you want to go all the way there are a few more beautiful things to consider, the biggest one is a corset. Virtually all pinup girl images from the Gibson girl to Dita Von Teese have had a dramatic curve to the waist. The classic hourglass figure has the waist at least 10 inches smaller than the bust and hips, which are about the same size e.g., 36/24/36. These days the hourglass figure is dying out and the pear shape is more common, but if you really want the look and don't want the pain of wearing a corset, there are some things you can do.
EXERCISE. certain exercises are proven to reduce the size of your waist, while others can actually increase it. Click on the link to read the ones that work for me.
GIRDLES. Girdles and waist cinchers are ultimate in retro glamour and have come a long way since your granny wore them. These days they are both sexy and relatively comfortable. Infact a whole fetish scene has grown up around them.
Or if you are really really dedicated there is always
CORSET WAIST TRAINING. Waist training with a full steel boned corset is not for everyone, and your doctor will not recommend it, but if you have the patience, dedication and discipline it might be for you.
