So without the hype, what exactly is corset waist training?
Well in theory it is simple, it is the consistent wearing of a corset for prolonged periods in order to reduce the size of the waist.
In practice it is not so simple. It is complicated by the fact that to achieve a goal of say 18 inches or less requires wearing a corset almost constantly, which you can imagine is no mean feat. Most people who attempt it will fail.
It requires serious dedication and mind over body discipline. It requires patience and a determination to achieve the end goal. A vague notion that you would like to took more like Dita Von Teese will not be enough. It is a personal choice, and like all extreme body modifications it will get you hassle, shock and even disgust from most people. It is not an image that is encouraged by fashion, so most people will never understand your need to do it.
There is actually a difference between corset waist training and tight-lacing. Tightlacing is often competitive, it is the goal of a tightlacer to achieve the smallest possible laced waist measurement, or even the extreme "pipe stem" waist. It is generally thought to be very harmful to health, though can be done safely but should NEVER be attempted by a novice. Corset waist training is the use of a corset in combination with diet and exercise to reduce the natural size (unlaced size) of the waist within realistic proportions. Both require corset discipline, but despite the distinction the two terms are often used interchangeably.
Because of all the self control and public disapproval it is usually not a good idea to go it alone. Happily there are such things as corset waist training coaches and support groups online, which can be a great help.
These are the places to go for specific information on training and tight-lacing, which is why I will not write too much here, as I don't want this page to be considered a manual.
However there are some basic rules that apply to follow. It is generally best to use an under bust or "cupless" corset, which must be of a strong, breathable material that can be hand washed. The corset must be a perfect fit and ideally should be custom made. A corset liner is essential to protect the skin from damage and to reduce discomfort. A healthy diet should be followed, and fizzy drinks should be avoided. Sufficient fibre is essential in the diet to prevent the possibility of the internal walls of the intestines sticking together under the pressure. And the corset should be worn for at least 10 hours a day, ideally you should not be taking it off for more than an hour at a time (yes that does mean wearing some kind of corset in bed overnight!) You must look after your skin too as constant corset wear can dry it out. And take it slowly, never force it, remember that you don't have to be aiming to be the next Cathy Jung or even Dita Von Teese, this is about you and your body.
Corset waist training can be and is used as an aid to weight loss, and for body sculpting. The restriction of the stomach when wearing a corset will mean you are able to consume less food, and will also mean that you need to eat more slowly. It can be the last push required to achieve your ideal shape. Ideal without a corset on that is. But beware if you have more weight to loose because the corset training will displace body fat in sometimes strange ways that can become permanent.
These are all important, but they are just the half of it. The good news is that you don't need to go through all that just to get the look if you don't want to. If you are waist training, or going to waist train then good luck to you and enjoy the feeling of knowing you are capable of such a feat.
Just one more thing.
What happens when you have reached your corset waist training goal? Well that does depend on what your goal was to begin with. If you were aiming for the tightest possible lacing, then you will pretty much continue in the same way just without reducing the size any more. but if your aim was body sculpting then 'maintenance' wearing is needed. Generally you do not need to continue round the clock compression. Just 3 days a week or so in a good corset of your choice will suffice. So long as you stick to your diet and exercise.

By the way If you are going to wear your steel boned corset under your clothes you will have to 'break it in' first or it will be very visible. Wear it for afew hours a day every day for a week or two before trying to wear it unseen under clothes so it gets a chance to conform to your shape. Also it is best to add stocking suspender clips if possible. I find that helps with the line. Consider the cut of your clothes too, a nice vintage late40s 50s style dress with a full skirt and a fitted waist is best.

What Katie Did Morticia
This video will give you an idea of what you should be looking for when choosing a corset for waist training. Lucy recommends the Morticia for waist training and for experienced corset wearers who want a high quality well fitting corset without the custom made price tag. She also has said that she sleeps in the WKD 'baby' corset as it is very comfortable and allows a greater range of movement. I would fully agree with these recommendations. Using these two corsets (morticia and baby) will greatly reduce the expense of waist training long term)
